The chemical weapons attack in Syria violates many Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) articles, but we have chosen articles 3 and 5.
Article 3 states: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. The Syrian government used chemical weapons on its own people to perform mass killings. This is a clear violation of the right to life and security of person. The people there live in fear, knowing they could be attacked with chemical weapons. People living in a country should feel safe and secure, not subject to being killed by their own government at any given moment. In the civil war between the Assad regime and the opposition, at least 125,835 people have been murdered. Of these deaths, more than 1/3 of them were civilians. This horrific conflict has also taken the life of over 6,500 children! Children have also been forced to fight as soldiers for the Assad regime!
Article 5 states: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. The use of chemical weapons on people is cruel, inhuman and degrading in every way. According to the Obama Administration, over 1,400 people have brutally been gassed with chemical weapons such as sarin and mustard gas. There is no reason to kill citizens in your own country for the sole purpose of keeping power, especially in such an inhumane way! The Syrian government has found a new way to inhumanely murder people: barrel bombs, oil drums that are packed with metal shards and explosives. A team of revered war crimes prosecutors found that Syrian citizens were also starved, tortured, and beaten by the Assad regime. This video (see below) shows how horrible these attacks were. According to The Guardian, the United Nations has also found evidence of children being tortured and disfigured, and children have also been sexually abused!
